Heart Baby Home provides heart images and text descriptions that may be re-posted or linked on blogs/carepages/facebook to help explain congenital heart defects.
Gathering and informing a support group of friends and family is an essential step for parents of a heart baby (a baby with congenital heart defects). However, writing the information from scratch is a daunting task. The information is there, but it’s hard to grasp and hard to rehash. Some parents put it off for days or weeks while they try to deal with raw emotions and shock. Relaying the experience via phone or in person is painful and depressing. So, the parents often hide – shutting out their needed support.
In 2008, my youngest twin was born with a complex combination of heart defects. I was unable to find any images on the web that matched her heart defect. I found an image that was close and figured I could point out all the differences. However, I wasn’t sure if it was OK to use that image or if I was violating a copyright law by reposting it. That made me very uncomfortable.
